Stegna beach

The wide, sandy beach in Stegna is about 1500 m away — a walk through the pine forest. The beach is about 2.5 km long. In the summer holidays there are lifeguarded bathing areas at entrance no. 69 (Lipowa street) and entrance no. 67 (Morska street), with lifeguards, toilets and beach bars. The other forest entrances are quieter and less crowded.

Winter sea swimming in Stegna

Off season, Stegna beach draws winter swimmers — from autumn to spring groups usually meet at entrance no. 68. After a dip in the Baltic you can warm up in our sauna, open all year round.

Half-timbered church in Stegna (1681–1683)

The Church of the Sacred Heart of Jesus in the centre of Stegna is one of the most valuable historic buildings of the Żuławy region. The half-timbered church was built in 1681–1683 — the year 1683 is shown on the tower’s weathervane. Inside you will find a baroque interior, a painted wooden ceiling from 1688 (one of the largest of its kind in Poland) and a bell from 1643 that survived the fire of the earlier church.

Amber: the “Bursztynowa Komnata” museum and Jantar

At ul. Gdańska 64 in Stegna you will find the “Bursztynowa Komnata” (Amber Room) Amber Museum — the first private amber museum in Poland, housed in a traditional Żuławy arcaded house. It shows blocks of Baltic amber with inclusions (trapped insects and plants), tells the story of the lost Amber Room and teaches you to tell real amber from fakes. The museum is open seasonally — a good idea for a rainy day.

A few kilometres west lies Jantar, which hosts the World Amber Fishing Championships every summer. After a storm it is worth walking along the shoreline — amber is washed up together with small twigs and seaweed.

Żuławy Narrow-Gauge Railway

In summer a historic narrow-gauge train runs from Stegna Gdańska station. Routes lead from Stegna to Sztutowo, to the Vistula river (Prawy Brzeg Wisły station, via Jantar and Mikoszewo) and to Nowy Dwór Gdański. Trains run daily in the summer holidays and on selected days in May and September — see the current timetable at kolejzulawska.pl. A favourite with kids.

Stutthof Museum in Sztutowo

About 5 km from Stegna, in Sztutowo (ul. Muzealna 6), is the Stutthof Museum — a memorial site on the grounds of the former German concentration camp. Admission is free. The exhibitions are open daily: from May to September usually 8:00–18:00, off season 8:00–15:00. Allow about 2 hours for the visit. Given the nature of the site, the museum does not recommend visits by children under 13. Up-to-date information: stutthof.org.

Cormorant reserve in Kąty Rybackie

In the coastal forest between Stegna and Kąty Rybackie lies the “Kąty Rybackie” nature reserve, established in 1957. It protects one of the largest cormorant colonies in Europe as well as a grey heron colony. The nests in the crowns of old pines are an impressive sight — best seen in spring and early summer, from the marked paths.

Vistula Spit canal (Nowy Świat)

About 15 km from Stegna, past Kąty Rybackie, is the shipping canal through the Vistula Spit, opened in 2022. The canal is about 1.1 km long and links the Gulf of Gdańsk with the Vistula Lagoon. From nearby viewpoints you can see the lock, the swing bridges and — with a bit of luck — passing vessels.

Krynica Morska: lighthouse and Camel Hump

About 20 km from Stegna lies Krynica Morska — a resort between the Baltic Sea and the Vistula Lagoon, with a harbour on the lagoon. Climb the lighthouse (27 m tall) and the Camel Hump (Wielbłądzi Garb) — a 49.5 m dune, the highest point of the Vistula Spit, with views of both the lagoon and the Baltic.

Cycling: route R10 (EuroVelo 10) through Stegna

The coastal R10 cycle route, part of the international EuroVelo 10 (Velo Baltica), runs through Stegna. The Vistula Spit variant leads from Mikoszewo through Jantar, Stegna, Sztutowo, Kąty Rybackie and the Vistula Spit canal to Krynica Morska and Piaski. The route is almost flat, with a hardened surface, mostly through the forest — ideal for family rides. Sample distances from Stegna: Sztutowo approx. 5 km, Kąty Rybackie approx. 9 km, the canal approx. 15 km, Krynica Morska approx. 25 km.

Mikoszewo–Świbno ferry and a trip to Gdańsk

About 11 km from Stegna, in Mikoszewo, a seasonal ferry crosses the Vistula to Świbno on Sobieszewo Island — a shortcut towards Gdańsk for cars, cyclists and pedestrians. The ferry usually runs from 1 May to 30 September, 7:00–21:00, roughly every 30 minutes. More on getting here on the Getting here page.
